Letter from Jonathan Worth to John M. Dick, July 5, 1858
Asheboro, July 5th, 1858.
You will have heard that I am a candidate for the Legislature and consequently must resign my office as Clerk and Master to the judge who is to ride this circuit this Fall. I know of no one who desires the appointment and would like to have Mr. Foster, Mr. Long or my son-in-law, J. J. Jackson, appointed, who upon the contingency of my defeat or on my return from the Legislature would resign so that I might be re-appointed if it should be the pleasure of the Court. Will you do me the favor to let me know which of the Judges is to ride this Circuit this Fall?
